Tostem Unveils Plans for Its 100th Anniversary, Expanding Sustainable Door and Window Business in Residential Sector
Tostem, a Japanese brand under the LIXIL group, celebrates its 100th anniversary by advancing its business in ready-made aluminum doors and windows for sustainable housing. The company emphasizes three strategies focused on product innovation using environmentally friendly materials, establishing Thailand as its primary research and production base to penetrate the Asian market, and expanding into the luxury market. The aim is to enhance living experiences with quality products while aligning with the vision of Net-Zero 2050.
Mr. Satoshi Yoshida, Executive Officer and Deputy President of LIXIL Housing Technology, LIXIL Corporation, a global leader in residential building products, revealed that the housing technology business contributes approximately 40% of LIXIL's annual revenue, amounting to over 600 billion yen (around 145.8 billion baht). Currently, over 37% of production comes from residential door and window products under the Tostem brand, which has a rich history spanning 100 years this year.

Mr. Satoshi Yoshida
“Tostem is a key brand of LIXIL Housing Technology that delivers innovation to consumers with a Japanese foundation built over 100 years. We are committed to presenting creativity and innovation, overcoming challenges, and pioneering various innovations as the first in the industry. We will use innovation as the core to drive sustainable growth,” said Mr. Satoshi.
Moving forward, the strategies for driving the TOSTEM brand will focus on three main pillars:
1. Driving innovation towards environmentally conscious markets, aligned with LIXIL's vision for 2050, aiming for net-zero carbon dioxide emissions and sustainable resource use. TOSTEM has continuously introduced new innovations to the market, such as the environmentally friendly aluminum “PremiAL R70,” made from 70% recycled aluminum, and is preparing to launch “PremiAL R100,” made from 100% recycled aluminum. Additionally, the Tostem Innovation Center in Japan is developing methods to recycle used plastics alongside aluminum to create new products, hoping to contribute to environmental solutions.
2. Establishing Thailand as the primary research and production base for penetrating the Asian market. Each year, LIXIL invests over 23.5 billion yen (around 5.7 billion baht) in research and development (R&D) to create cutting-edge innovations and expand delivery to customers worldwide, particularly in Asia. The company has a core customer base in six countries and operates four manufacturing plants. Thailand is a strategic country where the company established a factory in 1988, set up its Asian marketing headquarters, and established a research and development center to strengthen product quality through a unique pre-engineered system.
3. Expanding into the luxury market. The LIXIL Housing Technology business has continuously developed special solutions to meet the unique demands of luxury customers. In 2021, it introduced the NODEA product, a high-quality design that received positive feedback from architects and luxury clientele.
Mr. Ichiro Murakoshi, Executive Officer for the Asia Region, LIXIL Housing Technology, LIXIL Corporation, stated that creating shared experiences for consumers to engage with real products is crucial for satisfaction and leads to purchasing decisions. The company prioritizes brand building and addressing the unique needs of the Asian customer market. In celebration of its 100th anniversary, the company organized the TOSTEM Asia Design Award, a design competition for residential projects across the Asian region, to honor architects who play a vital role in enhancing comfort and quality of living through innovative design, aligning with TOSTEM's focus on quality, advanced technology, and Japanese design principles, with over 133 submissions received.
